'Yahoooooooooooooooooooooo' !
Chahe mujhe koi Junglee kahey! Kahne do ji kahtha rahe! Marathon ke toofaanon mein gire hai, hum kya kare! Yahoooooo! (Adapted from the Original )
Now why in God's name would I be behaving so 'unladylike' ( with the likes of Madisaar Mamis popularised by the JaiBee ? ) Oh well..I am sure my fellow Marathoners can vouch for me screaming my head off! Today is the finale of the Recipe Marathon! Can you believe that a half a month jus flew past! ( Oh well I know Valli is not going to feel a difference! God she Blogs daily!) but for me , this was quite an achievement. I personally dont believe in blogging daily. Blogging is a hobby and I want to keep it that way. And a hobby is done to increase one's expertise/knowledge in some area and thats exactly what I wanted blogging to be. Recipe Marathon in one way was detrimental to that. But there were some benefits for which I am not going to barter my persistance at this Series.
Talking about which - This Series made me prove to myself that I can stick to something till the very end . It made me satisfied to see my own commitment! And one more important thing - F.R.I.E.N.D.S. There is nothing more satisfactory than getting together with ppl with common likes and jabbering away to glory. Our E-mail threads having crossed 100 in matter of 4-5 days should tell you something! I got together with the most wonderful bunch. I have some personal words to say about them in my next post.
Coming to my post. I have the habit of cooking in a cyclic loop. Starts with regions and countries. Like one day I will make Gujju, another day Mexican, next Caribbean and then come back to our traditional South Indian meal. Usually I dont repeat a dish at least for 1-2 months. Being that way, weekend was the turn for a nice South Indian meal in our home and I made the complete course with some Saboodana/Sago/javarisi Vadas ( or fritters ). Nothing like our food to satisfy our souls ( esp when you have it after a looong time ;-) )and this Vada(i) only helped to enhance it further.
Method
1.Combine all the ingredients in a bowl.
2.Soak and set aside for at least 1 hr for the sago to soften. The consistancy should be for making Vadas. If its too thick, add more water/buttermilk else add rice flour to thicken it.
3.Take a small qty and flatten it in your palms and drop it in hot oil for deep fry. The heat should be med to high. If too hot, the Vadas will brown outside but will remain uncooked inside. And if too low, it will absorb more oil.
4.Place it in paper towel for the oil to drain and enjoy.
Vetha Kuzhambu, Poondu Melagu Rasam , Taro Root Roast , Vada(i)s, Curd and Pickle! Whats more to life than that! Utter Total Bliss - I would say!
Check out how my fellow runners are finishing off their last day in style!
