What do we Indians do without Rice? It being a staple, it is inevitable that the variety that oozes in our repertoire is vast to say the least. And likewise is the love for sweets. From burfi's to halwa's to puddings, the rich and delicious 'sweet nothings' are myriad. The last week of RM#2 sees a combination of both Rice and sweet dishes - no not together but separately in their own glory! ;-) And to make it more enterprising, I thought I will throw in a bit of the famous roadside Indian snacks too...guess I am sounding like a business woman ;-)
Week 4
Day 23 with Hyderabadi Biryani
One of the best rice dishes of Indian cuisine. While when one thinks of Hyderabad biryani in terms of non-veg, I have tried to not leave the vegetarians in a limbo by making this one meatless. Why should we deprive ourselves of this dish ;-)
Day 24 with Kashmiri Pulao
One of the most beautiful places in India is Kashmir. Their cuisine is a delight to a non vegetarian and not so favourable to vegetarians like me. But among their various dishes, few of them are more famous in other parts of the world than in kashmir by itself and among such is one vegetarian dish called "Kashmiri Pulao" which caters to people with sweet tooth. Mildly spiced with pleasing sweetness attached to it, this dish is a delight not only for the sight but to taste as well.
Day 25 with Bisibela Bath
A blessing in disguise for all taste buds comes in way of this rice dish all the way from Karnataka. A mouthful of this translates to warmth, love and total feeling of bliss. You dont have to take my word for it - try it out yourself.
Day 26 with Batata Vada
Potatoes are so versatile. The variety to which we can subject a Potato is mind boggling to say the least. Among such goody bags is this one - batata Vada - which is a fried potato dumpling. Come winter..rainy day or even a gloomy day, all you have to do is to make a batch of this and you can feel your day brighten pronto!
Day 27 with Samosas
Samosas need no introduction. These are one of the reasons to put India in the world map! They do a better introduction to Indian cuisine than any of my long essays about how good our food is. And it being able to talk for itself, I will let the recipe do all the talking for me.
Day 28 with Molaga bhajji (Chilli fritters)
One stop shop for all spicy food lovers. A snack made and customized just for rainy days! Of course it can be enjoyed any time but nevertheless when had during rainy season, it does remarkable stuff to chase away the gloom. A leader in roadside Indian snack, esp ruling the roost in beaches in Chennai, India - it stands on its own to draw you in.
Day 29 with Pal Kova (Doodh Peda) Indian Milk beased sweet
Some dishes can just not be explained. They are there only to be savored, cherished, get lost inside the immense sensations that it creates in one's taste buds. Among them is this Indian master blaster sweet called Pal Kova( in the south) and Doodh Peda( in the North).
Day 30 with Double Ka Meeta
This gift comes from Hyderabad known for its rich cuisine. If you think that you have tasted the best bread pudding recipes, then wait till you taste this one. It will help to change your midset pronto :)
